Violence and Bullying at work

PCS demands safe workplaces for all workers free from violence, abuse and harassment.

The Health and Safety Executive defines work related violence as ‘any incident in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work.’ This includes verbal abuse and threats, as well as any form of physical abuse.

Workers most at risk are those who work with members of the public. Workers can also be subjected to violence by their own colleagues.

Employers have a duty to protect workers from violence. Jobs with a greater risk of violence should have specific risk assessments. All workers should know and be trained in what to do if there is a violent incident.
