Violence and Bullying at work
Find out what you can do if you are suffering from bullying or abuse at work
PCS demands safe workplaces for all workers free from violence, abuse and harassment.
The Health and Safety Executive defines work related violence as ‘any incident in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work.’ This includes verbal abuse and threats, as well as any form of physical abuse.
Workers most at risk are those who work with members of the public. Workers can also be subjected to violence by their own colleagues.
Employers have a duty to protect workers from violence. Jobs with a greater risk of violence should have specific risk assessments. All workers should know and be trained in what to do if there is a violent incident.
If you have experienced violence at work or have concerns about the risk of violence at work, speak to your union rep in confidence. We are here to help you.
If you have experienced racial abuse you can call our 24-hour racial incident helpline: 020 7801 2678.
