New accessibility tools for PCS website
Our new toolbar provides an inclusive online experience to enable visitors to access our website in a way that works best for them.
Over 20% of the population may encounter barriers when exploring the internet due to having a disability, learning difficulty, visual impairment or if they speak English as a second language.
Visitors to the PCS website, whether on a desktop or using the mobile version, are now able to access a wide range of accessibility and language support tools to customise their digital experience through Recite Me assistive technology.
The Recite Me toolbar includes screen reading functionality, multiple reading aids, for example a ruler, customisable styling options including changing fonts and colour, and a translation feature with over 100 languages including 65 texts to speech and styling options.
In 2022 there were over 5,400,000 users of the Recite Me toolbar and it is on over 2,500 websites for organisations such as the GMB, NHS trusts, local government and universities, including a number of public sector organisations in Wales where the language translation tool is used.
Accessibility is extremely important to PCS and we are committed to ensuring all visitors to our website, whether members or non-members, can access information and services in a way that best meets their individual needs.
To explore our accessibility support tool, click on the Accessibility Tools link at the top of the home page of the PCS website, or use the Accessibility icon if using a mobile.
If you have any feedback on the new toolbar, please email web@pcs.org.uk with your comments.
